Impetigo

Impetigo is an infection that causes sores on the skin. It is common during the summer when children and insects are active. Following an insect bite or cut, the child will often scratch the bite or cut and it will become infected. Usually the infection is due to "staph" or "strep" germs. Mild impetigo can be treated by washing the sores with Betadine three times a day. Follow this with an application of Bacitracin cream or triple antibiotic ointment. Then cover with a band-aid. If the impetigo spreads, make an appointment.
